What Is Data Integration?

What Is Data Integration?

Data integration is the process of connecting data from different sources so it can be accessed, reviewed, and analysed in one place. For many teams, useful data is spread across cloud storage, spreadsheets, reports, databases, dashboards, and business tools. Without integration, users often waste time downloading files, uploading them again, copying data between tools, or working from outdated versions.

DataLumio's data integration feature starts with Google Drive. Instead of manually uploading each file into the platform, users can connect their Drive, view available files, and chat with them directly. This is useful for people who already keep reports, spreadsheets, research files, business documents, or analysis files in Google Drive and want a faster way to understand them.

Traditional data integration software is often built for engineering teams. It may require pipelines, warehouses, credentials, transformations, and ongoing maintenance. DataLumio takes a lighter approach — designed for users who want a simple way to connect files and analyse them through an AI-powered workspace, without building a full data infrastructure setup.

How It Works

How to Connect Your Data Sources in DataLumio

From connecting your account to chatting with files — in just a few steps.

01

Choose a Data Source

Start from the Data Integration area and choose the source you want to connect. Google Drive is currently available, with more connectors planned. This gives users one place to manage external sources as the integration library grows.

02

Connect Your Account

For Google Drive, create a connection and authorize DataLumio through Google. This gives DataLumio access to the files needed for the connected workflow. Once the connection is complete, your Drive files become available to browse inside the platform.

03

Browse Your Files

After connecting Google Drive, DataLumio shows your available files in a file browser. You can search or scan through your connected files and choose the one you want to work with. This is useful when your reports, datasets, or documents are already stored in Drive.

04

Chat With the File

Open a supported file and ask questions about it in plain English. You can ask for summaries, explanations, patterns, data points, or clarification depending on the type of file. Each file keeps its own conversation, so your questions and answers stay tied to the right document or dataset.

05

Return to Saved Chats

Because chat history is saved for each individual file, you can come back later and continue where you left off. This is especially helpful for recurring reports, ongoing research files, monthly spreadsheets, or documents that need repeated review.

Use Cases

Data Integration Use Cases

Built for teams who want to analyse their existing files without manual uploading.

Research and Academic Files

Researchers and students often keep readings, datasets, notes, and reports in Google Drive. DataLumio helps them connect those files and ask questions without moving everything manually.

A researcher can open a report, ask for a summary, review key sections, or continue a saved chat later when writing notes or preparing analysis.

Business Reports and Internal Documents

Teams often store weekly reports, planning documents, performance files, and spreadsheets in Drive. With DataLumio's Google Drive integration, users can browse these files and ask direct questions.

This can help managers and analysts review long reports faster and pull out the information they need before meetings or updates.

Spreadsheet Review

Google Drive often contains Excel files, Sheets, CSV exports, and tracking documents. DataLumio's integration helps users open supported spreadsheet-style files and chat with them.

Instead of manually checking every row or column, users can ask questions about the file and use the responses as a starting point for deeper analysis.

Client and Consultant Workflows

Consultants and agencies often receive files in shared Drive folders. DataLumio can help them review documents, reports, and datasets more quickly through file-specific chat.

Saved conversation history also makes it easier to return to the same client file later without losing previous questions.

DataLumio vs Other Data Integration Platforms

Most integration platforms move data. DataLumio helps you understand it.

Most data integration platforms are built to move data between systems. DataLumio is different because the connected source is not the final goal. The goal is to help users open files, ask questions, analyse content, and keep the workflow in one place.

For large-scale ETL pipelines, warehouse sync, or enterprise data movement, tools like Fivetran, Airbyte, or Informatica may still be the right fit. DataLumio is better suited for users who want a simpler connected analysis workflow without needing a data engineering team.
